Dear Internet: I’m Cheating on You.

To my dear, darling Internet,

Maybe you’ve noticed I’ve been a little distant. Blog posts have been less frequent. I’ve been MIA on Twitter. My Facebook page has been a bit neglected.

I’m sorry, Internet. I know I’m not paying as much attention to you. It’s true: I haven’t been myself around you lately.

And I have to be honest and tell you the reason I’ve deserted you over the last few weeks. You’ve probably suspected it…

…there’s someone else.

It’s true. My first love is back and wooing me once again. And I just can’t resist.

I’ve always been obsessed. My first love is irresistible, you know. I just can’t control myself. She – yes, she – is warm and alive. She infuses me with joy. And best of all, she likes it when I get dirty.

Ahem.

So who is this alluring being that I have been spending all my time with? Ok, here it is. I’m going to be totally, completely honest.

I have been cheating on you with … Mother Nature.

I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it!

Every spare moment I’ve had, I’ve been with her. And we’ve been creating beautiful things together:

Now that's some garden porn.
HAWT, I tell you.

Some parts of our relationship are a bit high-maintenance right now. They need lots of attention to flourish:

Don't green beans get your motor revving?
Mmmm, tomatoes. I can't wait to get my hands on this juicy fruit.

I mean, really. What’s sexier than shade gardening?

Who says shade gardens can't have some saucy color?
Shade is hot, baby.

Where are all the pretty flowers, you ask? Oh, baby, I am JUST GETTING STARTED.

Oh peonies. You make me weak in the knees.
Be mine, columbine.
Next love session: Planting gorgeous annual flowers. Sigh...

So you see, I have to take advantage of my time with Nature while I can. She’s fickle, and every year she turns her back on me by fall. And then deserts me altogether in winter.

It’s very sad. You’d think I’d learn by now. But no, I just keep coming back for more. Every year.

So, Internet, please try to understand. I do care about you, I really do. I’ll still be around, I promise. But Nature came before you, and she has a special place in my heart. Please don’t hate me. Please believe me when I say…

…it’s not you. It’s me.

I’ll always care about you,

JD

    1. Thanks, Kathy! I firmly believe brown thumbs can be overcome with the right plants. Have you tried starting really small, like a 4 ft x 4 ft space outside? That’s how I started after having terrible luck with indoor plants. I built my confidence and knowledge up with one small space at a time!

  1. Your flowers are beautiful! I wish I could grow things, I’m so skilled I can even kill cactus. My love is sewing, I just learnt quilting, it’s getting to be an addiction.

  2. Wow, looks like you’ve gotten a lot done! I’m jealous of your peonies. You must get sun in your yard. My yard is so shady. I’m stuck with begonias and impatiens. Anyway, nice work with your garden! It all looks beautiful!

    1. I have a TON of shade, too. My mom introduced me to caladium plants – those are the pink and red plants in the first shade picture. And hostas come in a bizillion colors. I can post some pics of hostas if you’d like – I have waaaa too many and could bore you to tears with them. 😉

  3. Amen! Now that we’ve been able to get my garden in, I look forward to spending MUCH less time online. I’m in Michigan though, and while it was 90 degrees last weekend, it’s 50 and rainy today…sigh. But I can’t wait to take more flower pictures and spend time playing in the dirt with my beans 🙂

Yours look awesome and I love my flower porn!

    1. Thanks! We are going to have 6 days of rain in a row here starting tomorrow. Blech. The good news is it should wash away some of this horrid pollen that is making me miserable every moment I am outside!

Post some of your garden porn pics!!!

  4. Great post. I’m in Michigan though, and while it was 90 degrees last weekend, it’s 50 and rainy today…sigh. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Gorgeous! I told Hubs when we moved to Austin that I wanted to grow something. It’s been mostly weeds so far, though we have picked a couple handfuls of green beans and a few itty bitty tomatoes. Yay!
